It is important to understand that such experts are necessary in cases which involve complex financial transactions, complicated computer crimes, etc. It is important that you retain a criminal defense attorney who is experienced in dealing with such experts. In this article we will discuss taking one’s case to trial. If you are in need of assistance then contact our office today to speak with a lawyer.

We previously discussed the process of taking a fraud charge to trial as a general matter. There are additional issues to understand when the matter is the type of high level felony, or federal charge, which can result from complex cases. The first of these issues is the fact that such trials can go on for weeks or even months. The prosecution must prove every act of a crime, beyond a reasonable doubt, and complex charges can involve hundreds or even thousands of individual transactions. Depending on the circumstances, it may be necessary for one’s defense lawyer to require that each and every transaction be proven. This may cause the case to go on for a prolonged period of time.

It is also important to understand that high-level cases, such as those involving money laundering, are typically heard in Federal Court. The rules and procedures of Federal Court are often more strict than those found in State Court and the process is often found to be more formal. Not all attorneys are licensed in Federal Court and it is crucial for a defendant to retain counsel who is experienced with the process.

It is important to retain counsel who is also experienced in jury selection. Given that complex fraud trials can go on for a prolonged period of time it is crucial to select jurors who will take the matter seriously and who are likely to be able to absorb large amounts of information. It is also crucial to select jurors who will keep an open mind.
